MASTER SCHEDULE, BUDGET, SHOPPING, AND CHRISTMAS LIST -- preliminary (sic) Tom Jennings 15 Sep 93 The overriding item is money. Unfortunately, until we lay out the tasks we don't know how much we need. I will not be able to do all of the details before I go, so I'm gonna have to leave a lot of it out. Fortunately, I don't think we need to write too many checks in the next two weeks; I think leased lines will be the first need of money, and I don't know how they bill. We have two major milestones: to get the POP ready, and to get the leased lines in place. A lot hinges on whether TIS is in or not. If they are IN, then the line to 814 University can stay as-is, and the Alternet overlap becomes critical. If they are OUT, then we can probably work out a comfortable overlap without much trouble, but we'll have to order a new line to PA (though then again, likely we can work out the overlap). MFS hasn't completed the POP yet. They claim it will be ready by 15 Oct. We need to stay on them for this. FAILSAFE: if we can at least get the line to Sprint in, even if our cage is not complete, we can live with some delay, by pre-assembling the racks and hauling them up there partially complete, if necessary. ** NOTE: if we do not use MFS for the Cygnus T1, we must decide and deal with pulling wires ourselves or paying MFS to do it. Leased lines will be the gating item due to order time. The Toad Hall line, like the 814 University line, could be late without killing us. (Toad Hall staying connected to Cygnus, and 814 to TIS.) The line from 444 Market (we need a name for our POP!) to Cygnus is critical. MFS is getting a price for us now, but we shouldn't wait on it. I can only assume we can get a leased line installed within 45 days. I have no experience with them. Tim? Delivery times for equip from Capella seems not a problem. Mike Lee says he doesn't stock CSU/DSU's because he can routinely get them in 2--3 days. ** He has a lead on used Cisco AGC and/or AGS+'s. He says a full-boat expandable (4 ports, exp. to 16?) possibly for $3500. He will call tomorrow for prices; Tim, I mentioned your name, and said I would be out of town. They are getting IP connectivity tomorrow... Details on talks with Capella follow separately. We need a lot of trivia for the 444 POP. Luckily it is mostly ordinary gunk, and either Tim or I could collect it. I think little of it is long-lead or high-price stuff. We should watch out for telecomm. wiring devices though. I have no idea what T1 uses. We would be wise to get two racks, ASAP. We can start to outfit them with wiring panels, etc. That eats time. If necessary, I will build them here in my workroom. (We only need to really build one, and have the other ready.) ! == Sunday sep oct nov 93 20 27 1 4 11 18 25 1 --!------!---.-!------!------!------!------!----- POP access -------------------------| (15 Oct) wire pull (TBD) |-----------| (26 Oct) build POP - - - - - - ------------------------------| (31 Oct) line to Cygnus --------------------------------------| (31 Oct) turn off Alternet ||--|| (?) $1250 to MFS -----------------------| (15 Oct) $X for wire pull |---------| (26 Oct) $X to Capella ---------------| (x Oct) $X to Pacbell/MFS/etc -------------------- (?)
