Proposal:
Santa Cruz Community Internet (scruz-net) would like to switch from
our current connection (56kbps ADN, terminating at Cygnus in Mtn View)
  to the following:
Frame Relay from PacBell arriving as a T-1 line at TLG's
SF POP (444 Market) and terminating at a Livingston IRX-111
     router (scruz-net provided)

We would like to install 384kbps service now, and upgrade to
full 1536kbps rate in the near future. Could TLG provide a
     reduced rate for 384kbps?

Do we need to provide a UPS for our router at 444 Market,
or is there adequate UPS capacity available now?

Scruz-Net equipment to install at 444 Market would be:
     Livingston IRX-111, T-1 CSU/DSU, 14.4k modem, and
     if needed, a UPS

We are moving ahead with plans to add a scruz-net POP
in downtown san jose, with similar services available
     (including $70+telco/month SLIP/PPP)... time frame
is operational within the next 90 days...
We'd like this kept relatively quiet, but we'd also
like to know if there's any TLG objection to this plan.

What arrangements, agreements, discussions are needed in order
to move forward with this? Our current 56k line is saturated
and our customers are getting anxious, so we'd like to get lines
and equipment ordered within the next week or so, if possible.

This sounds fine to me. I'd propose that TLG pay the difference
between an IRX-111 and an IRX-114, and have access to the three
added ports for connecting other TLG customers. This also makes
it easier to spare the unit, since all our other routers are 114's,
all can substitute for each other.

We may already have a router in the POP that can serve you -- I'm
not sure. Is there a particular reason that you want to buy your own?

I think we probably can, though we haven't discussed what the rate
would be yet.

There are plans in TLG for an eventual 56K POP in Sunnyvale, a few
months out. I don't see any conflict with a Scruz-net San Jose POP.
I don't think the calling areas overlap much (though we should check).
The idea is for the world to get wired at low cost, not for every
individual link to have to go through TLG!

When you drop your 56K service from the Cygnus POP, can we use the 56K
wire for another 56K customer? Moving one end of a 56K link only
costs $600 as opposed to $2000 to install a new one. Or were you
planning to move the "Cygnus end", keeping the Santa Cruz end, to
provide a 56K link to some Santa Cruz customer (or to San Jose)?

This week is a little crazy for me, what with Clipper and the Internet
breakins, but I'll see what I can do to keep myself off the critical path
and keep your project moving.
