Hey ho Maile,

You're very right about the way the proposal was centered arround me.
Basically, for the first draft it was the only part that I was sure of.
That is, I didn't want to speak for anyone else, or commit then to things
that they might have said in a conversation, but were not ready to have
appear in print (reminds me of Ray announcing that I would be going to SF
to work on the Temp Workers hall at the Assembly). I was going to include
at the end as sort of cv on the principals connected with the project, and
maybe I should remove most of the references to me from the proposal and
include them in the cv instead (I do think, however, that Monkeywrench and
the North Philly Union Hall have the ability to bring the proposal into
more real terms. Its not that there is not a lot of IWW activists, its
just that they are things few groups have managed recently, and they
should be used for all they're worth). As to you comming down, I'd love
it, I just did not want to rush you or take you for granted, I will
include you on the proposal if you are willing to commit (draft a quick cv
if you're interested. Also, I think that I'll be the only one committing
for so long, most people will be down for a week, or two, or three).
On the LA front, Miguel can only be very involved (more than 5-10
hours a week) if he is not working. Since he has to support a lot of us,
we can't ask him to not work as well. Commitment from others in the
branch is a little sketchy right now, as they are currently going through
the standard branch malaise syndrom. Part of the long lead in is because
we will have to do a lot of membership organizing first off (both
reactivating current members and recruiting new ones) There are several
members who show promise, but one thing that I have learned in organizing
is never count on anyone you're not absolutely sure about based on
experience.
As to other IWWs who have said they are interested in helping out
in significant ways, there's Lorenzo, Bob, Bill and Kim in Philly, Tony in
Salt Lake, Mat and Neil in Paterson, and Bill Meyers and Deke in SF. I'm
sure once a general call is put out, others like Mike D'Amore, Lenny Flank
and Jon Bekken will also express interest, not to mention others who I
don't know. It's hard to say who will really come through. Bill Meyers
seems both very unlikely and very likely, Tony has kids, Lenny Flank is
destitude, and so on. However, as long as there are two 20+hour people at
any given time, it should be feasible, since they will be able to keep
momentum up in the drive.
I'm waiting for input from Andrew and Miguel in LA, and I'll do
another draft once I have that in incorporating everyones suggestions.

In sincere anticipation,

Josie

PS what about Deke? Is he willing to commit any time to the drive? The
problem tends to be that you have to be unemployed.
