FW Deke,
How's it been going. Haven't heard from you lately. Here's an
update on the Ben Fletcher Center. We've affected some middle sized
repairs to the roof and have stemmed the tide of water for the winter. We
have also cleared out and are making ready the
first floor back, eventually home of the FNB kitchen, squatter/homeless
showeres and washer/dryer, as well small office cubical for new and
growing groups or a press. We have the walls of two of the SRO style
apartments practically done and new wiring a nd insulation to go with
them. As such, we will be moving out of the front room and into our rooms
by the end of the week so that we will then be able to get the reading
room ready. The public site internet project is goint ahead and should be
online at
BFC when I get back from california. This weekend we will be moving in
the first shipments of books for the Books thru Bars activities which will
also be increasing our reading material as well. We are currently also
work!
ing out with a youth rehab project to see about having them design and
construct the FNB kitchen, and associated fixtures, which might help
diversify the community with a vested interest in the center. Our
prisoner friend has approached us about signing
over the building to us in return for publishing, and this will hopefully
make us a more permanent fixture. So all in all, things are moving ahead
well, if not at lightening speed. Since we do not have central heating,
we do not expect to officially op en our doors before March anyway, so we
are making very good time.
I finnally got some before photos taken (3 weeks after before), so
next week I might be able to send you some photos of before and a little
after.
Hope all is well enough with you in SF and that I will see you
later in the month. I'm seriously considering taking up Ray's request for
help at the TWU, but I'm very dubious about working with him.
	In Solidarity,
	Josie, x341890
