Welcome to Inglevale, California!
Inglevale is where Tom Jennings' select documents live.
Documents I wrote, accidentally or on purpose
- The HOMOCORE
Anthology is out now, all issues of the zine (except 5-1/2) in print,
288 pages. From Fluke
Publishing; direct link to HOMOCORE Anthology. Here's the complete PDF of the Anthology,
- A file snapshot of fido.wps.com
some time in 1994, from the root down, of my first machine on the net of
the same name. It ran 386BSD aka Jolix. Some 200 MB of stuff from home
directories to source trees to archie and gopher.
- FIDO THE BOOK, the official print
manual for Fido and FidoNet version 12, 1987. Written by Scot Kamins, the
renowned author of Apple's excellent Hypercard software. Scot was a great
writer and I was lucky to have him write the Fido/FidoNet manual. This
manual was only available printed and to folks who paid me the $40
shareware or $200 commercial price. This is the first online
availability (Feb 2026).
- The Delivery a novel I wrote in
2022. The Delivery is mostly fiction, halfway to solarpunk. Old white guy
Dan lives with Aaron, Stacy, and others in their legacy compound in
crumbling Los Angeles. Dan heads out of town to make a delivery of dubious
provenance, driving along familiar desert routes. When a last minute
opportunity arises Stacy catches a ride with Dan to a sketchy communal
project in a dead town in the Mojave Desert.
- Partial/forensic documentation of a "Online Communities
Mini-Conference" at Interval Research Corp.
- I wrote this in 1993 after attending the
above Interval Corp Online Communities event and it manages to actually say
how I felt afterwards.
Really old software I wrote
1970s. My first computer was a SWTPC (Southwest Technical Products
Corporation) (wikipedia). I
borrowed an ASR-33 from work then later somehow bought an Ollivetti RE-318
terminal, a lovely thing. Both had paper tape (10 char/sec). I bought an old
Pertec? 7-track magtape drive (only) from American Used Computer in Boston or
Cambridge MA, built a simple controller and wrote code for a tape file system.
It actually worked, in spite of myself.
I could not afford the SWTPC assembler so I wrote macros for the Data
General RDOS assembler for the Nova 1200 computer to do it. It punched binary
to tape in some format and I wrote a 6800 assembly binary loader to read the
tapes. This is that code and macros.
This code survived the ages, when newer code did not, because it was printed
out in paper and hand written in a notebook.
Things I like but did not write
